Tech Wash and TX.Direct by Nikwax

Improvement in packaging and reducing production cost

Nikwax is manufacturer of Tech Wash and TX.Direct, the global leading waterproofing products for outdoor clothing and equipment and has won four Queen’s Awards.  Teamplast is proud to have worked on the renewed packaging for this successful range of products. Nikwax approached us as they were not satisfied with the quality of the closures for their packaging. During the initial briefing it became clear that we also would be able to increase their production rate by designing a new thread system which would only need a relatively low-cost new automatic capping system instead of hand capping.

Recycling benefits

Furthermore we were able to make the complete pack from a single polymer, PE, to assist recycling.  The restriction was that the outward design of the pack had to remain the same. We also introduced Tamper Evidence to the pack.

Enduring extreme changes and logistics

After initial basic designs were produced, first models and then test moulds were built to exhaustively test the new cap. Tech Wash and TX.Direct is sold throughout the world and has to cope with extremes of climate and logistics. The goals that were set were all achieved; optimising Nikwax’s production and packaging costs while increasing production capability and overall quality.

The Nikwax company, founded in 1977, is based in Wadhurst, East Sussex, Great Britain, and has offices in the American city of Seattle as well as in Austria and Poland.
